"Spirit of Wood" Competition Welcomes You

Teenagers and adults are welcome to display their work at a recognized annual wood art competition, while learning from the experience of being judged by a team of expert carvers and artisans. The competition is open to any level of artistic skill in woodcarving, wood turning, scrolling, sculpting and whittling. If you are a competitor, or plan to compete, what better opportunity is there to talk with other competitors to pick up valuable tips on how to improve your own work? This is a great one-day event to rub elbows with some of the best carvers and artisans in New England.

Where people come to enjoy the challenge and are inspired to create more traditional and contemporary objects of beauty.

Competitors must fill out an entry form and bring their project to the Registration Entry Table. Entry forms are available by mail and at the show. Fees must be paid at the time of entry. Items to be placed in competition should not have a name or persoal identification on it. If so, they need to be covered with tape. Numbered hanging tags will be placed on each item that will be judged. Judging of the contest will be completed the morning of the show. All entries will be placed on display until 4:00 PM the day of the show. An award ribbon will be placed next to each winning engry by the assigned judge(s).

Judges agree to be available for one-on-one critiquing of entries should a competitor want the feedback.

Winners agree to be available for photographs. These photographs may be used in local newspapers, in the Spirit of Wood newsletter and on the NEWC website. Photographs may also be sent to national magazines for publication.
