Regular NEWC meeting - MCC, Bedford, MA

Morning Carve-A-Long workshops, raffle, vendors, and noon membership meeting and guest speaker

The next meeting is June 23, 2013

Special Guest Speaker: TBD

Topic: TBD

Upcoming meeting of NEWC, Middlesex Community College
(Campus Center, Building #8)

Parking lot D is where you will park and that lot is opposite the meeting hall.  When you enter the building and walk through the atrium you will find the school cafeteria on the right.  That is where we meet. You can arrive as early as 9 a.m. There will be tables set up for the membership secretary, raffle and auction items and Show and Tell carvings for you to display.  On both ends of the hall there will be our regular member/vendors, The LaGoys on one end and Warren Blessing on the other.  They will have displayed many items for the carver to purchase. The remainder of the room will have tables set up for mini workshops and individual and small group carving. You can choose to sit in on any of the sessions. With Valentine day coming up you can expect something in that theme done in one or more group or by individuals.  Later in the morning we will have all items from the raffle/auction table raffled or sold at auction.  Among items members bring in for this event there will be a good amount of two-inch thick basswood and mahogany boards on hand for members to acquire.

By about noontime carving will cease and members will move to the meeting section of the hall where the speaking program will take place.

A note from MCC regarding the MCC facility and tomorrow's meeting: With this latest storm coming tomorrow, check the college web site early Sunday to make sure the college is open.
To access it go to www.middlesex.mass.edu, if the college is closed there will be a “running” ticker tape going across the front page stating the college is closed. The only thing that would shut it down is if we had a lot of snow on Saturday and the crew couldn’t get the plowing
done in time.

Carve-A-Long Workshops

Details for the next meeting.

Len Hill  be giving a workshop on Changing head positions on block carvings.

Ed Johnson and Gary Filiault, the dynamic duo, will be carving something.

You can count on others leading groups carving various projects. Please keep in mind, we always have in attendance one or two vendors selling wares. If you need an item for carving or blanks to carve for various projects, chances are good that the items will be available to you!

Hope to see you and don't forget your items for the Show and Tell table!

Winter Weather Watch

The cold weather we have been experiencing could result in more snow storms ahead. With that in mind members need to be reminded of NEWC’s winter policy for membership meetings.

  1. Listen to the Boston TV stations and/or your local radio station for the weather conditions. A specific cancellation for a NEWC meeting will not be broadcast on TV or on radio.
  2. If on the morning of a Membership Meeting there is 3-4 inches of snow that has fallen on the ground, and it will continue to snow for several more hours, the meeting will be cancelled.
  3. If there is an ice storm that makes the roads treacherous to drive the morning of a Membership Meeting the meeting will be cancelled.
  4. Cancelled meetings will not be rescheduled. The college calendar has many events that would conflict with finding a suitable replacement date.
  5. If we have sufficient time ahead of a pending storm we will do our best to notify members with the email listing we have on record. If your email is not listed with NEWC you will not receive a weather message from us.

Hope to see you there!
